First Brew

The very first beer gently boiling in the Grainfather with Brewmaster Carlin observing and Brewmaster Cook doing some important research. This was the "Stone & Wood" copy, called "Boulders & Tinder", a pacific ale. Just behind the grain father can be seen the first sugar wash for the alcohol run. The alcohol from which was used to make 1L of "cheats whiskey" before being stored for the later gin distillation.

The brew team sampling the very first alcohol created in "the shed". Very impressed with their own work.
This first beer was started on the 22nd of November 2020, the 0min hops added was misunderstood by the brewers and so half was added to the grainfather and the other half directly into the fermenter. Consequently the beer was cloudier when it was bottled than expected, but all brewers would attest to it's success.

We each took 9 bottles home and enjoyed a little of our toil in the shed as well.

The finished beer was 5.3% ABV, very fruity and hoppy (thanks to an additional Dry hop at 2 days prior to bottling. A good portion was wasted as the additional hops left a very murky sediment at the bottom of the fermenter. Also a touch too much sugar was added at bottling meaning the glass swing stoppered bottles let go a celebratory pop when opened... think champagne bottles!

All in all a great first brew.
